Moment of Monologue

The Calm of the Creator in the Storm

Psalms 46 AMP

1 God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change. And though the mountains be shaken and slip into the heart of the seas,

3 Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains tremble at its roaring.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, The holy dwelling places of the Most High.

5 God is in the midst of her [His city], she will not moved; God will help her when the morning dawns.

| Tragic incidents, political and ideology shifts, financial discomfort, internal conflicts of war, grief and fear. Humanity is being comforted by its discomfort. (Romans 8:22 “We know that the whole creation has been groaning [Groan = Anakh] as in pains of childbirth right up to the present time.”)

The distraction of chaos can cause our hearts to weaken and harden to the truth. AND YET STILL, God is in control. Psalms 46:2-3 expresses the disharmony of circumstances with shaken, roaring, slipping, rambling, foaming seas and mountains and yet the temporary conditions of the world only solidify the faithfulness of God further.

He is our refuge, might, impenetrable, present, evident. His character isn’t dismayed by the disposition of the situations of our time because he stands outside of time and beside Him is no one. God is so omnipotent that in the middle of raging winds, waters and trembling mountains. He is set on making a river for a city (His people). But wait! If mountains can’t stand and storms won’t still how does He make a streaming (a controlled body of water set in intentional direction) survive in mayhem? (Exodus 3:14 “GOD said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM; and He said, “You shall say this to the Israelites, I AM has sent me to you.”)

A PRESENT HELP was the word that was set on my heart. He is nearer than a whisper and closer than a heartbeat. Our “immediate” is limited by our time, our tomorrow is already in his past and He is still willing to be present with us in our now and He has spotless record, for He has never failed.

πŸ”ŽQuestions: What has been keeping you bound? What do you believe He can do despite your situation? Can you remember when God has turned something/someone around for you? What do you think about change and how does God think about change?

6 The nations made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered and were moved; He raised His voice, the earth melted.

7 The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold [our refuge, our high tower]

8 Come, behold the works of the LORD, Who has brought desolations and wonders on the earth.

9 He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow into pieces and snaps the spears in two; He burns the chariots with fire.

| Being at there mercy of God never disqualifies His goodness. The presence of calamity does not mean the absence of the LORD. The truth that we believers often want to ignore are the moments where we find it hard to digest the truth. And we many never fully know all of God’s reasonings until we are in glory with him but when we see sensitive topics that triggers us, frustrate us or even disappoint us in the Bible we often try to passively skim the text with carrying the possible offense of “God where were you in this?” and if not in the text, we may even do it in our lives.

The LORD is a redeemer, FACT. (Psalms 130:7) He is Just, Fact (2 Thessalonians 1:6). He is Love, FACT(1 John 4:8). God is faithful, FACTS (2 Thessalonians 3:3) and God is calling us to behold not only the wonders and miracles but also the destructions set by His hand. We are so valuable to the LORD that He treasures our covenant with Him and will make ways for us to be in right standing with him because he can not deny himself (He is a perfect and Holy God) just because we want the easy way (Hebrews 12:7). He is after the root (the heart and soul) of us, and the reverence we should have for Him it is not for His ego boost (He already knows who He is) or to degrade us but to keep us in a place of humility, trust and intimacy with Him. He wants us to know Him and by knowing Him we have the revelation of ourselves (Genesis 1:26-27).

πŸ”ŽQuestions: What is a characteristic of God that you are most thankful for in this season? Where is there sensitivity in your heart that you are hesitant to share with Him? How might you pray about the it?

10 “Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold [our refuge, our high tower].

|“Being still and doing nothing are two very different things” They ate with that line in Karate Kid okay…I have only watched it enough to be reminded of sayings like this, but that’s neither here or there. The bottom line is, that it is very true. It is very funny when we wrestle with stillness because we believe it is opposing us from “aiding” God. Umm, sorry, but he doesn’t need us for things to come into fruition. Yes, faith without works are dead but where is our busyness coming from? Gratification, fear, worry, manipulation, etc., “our works” is “our obedience”.

What if being still and present with the LORD is what He is calling you too but you think that’s not enough to please him. So, what please him then? (Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”) God is always speaking has always been comforting and challenging to me because are we listening and creating enough space for Him to speak to us. Move in obedience, that is what pleases the LORD.

πŸ”ŽQuestions: How do you feel in stillness? What work (of obedience) is the Lord encouraging you to do right now? How does it feel to know that the LORD loves you and already has a plan to prosper you beyond your own efforts?

I hope this encourages you to read and study Psalms 46 on your own and see what word God may have for you or even just a comfort in what ever season you are in. Make sure you check out my devotional tab for more stories like this and subscribe for more new post!
